Overview: Q4 2025 ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Meetings

CEI and Paulin Research Group remain deeply engaged in the ongoing developments of ASME pressure equipment codes. Our engineers participate in ASME code committee meetings each quarter, contributing technical expertise and tracking proposed revisions firsthand. This regular involvement keeps us closely aligned with regulatory changes and allows us to plan software updates proactively, helping our tools evolve in step with emerging requirements that impact pressure vessel and piping design worldwide.

Section IX & Section VIII Code Meetings | November 2025

In the week of November 3rd to 6thCEI and Paulin Research Group representatives -- Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu, P.E., Santiago Laris P.E. -- attended several ASME code committee meetings in person at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, TX. These meetings include:

Section IX Committee Meetings

  • Subgroup on Welding Qualifications
  • Subgroup on Materials (IX)
  • Subgroup on Brazing
  • Subgroup on General Requirements (IX), of which Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu is a member
  • BPV Committee on Welding, Brazing, & Fusing

Section VIII Committee Meetings

  • Working Group on Design by Analysis
  • Subgroup on Design, where Santiago Laris serves as a member of the Resource Development Group
  • Subgroup on General Requirements (VIII)
  • Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment, where Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu serves as Secretary
  • BPV Committee on Pressure Vessels where Tiradej sat in for a fellow committee member

Key Highlights

In these sessions, our representatives closely followed the latest developments. The points below summarize the updates most pertinent to pressure equipment engineers and designers:

  • Section VIII will issue errata to correct missing revisions to the code. A specific example is Part UCC needing to direct users to Section VIII, Div. 2 for formulas.

  • Section IX will issue errata to correct missing updates to P-Nos. 41–46, following the removal of P-No. 49.

  • task group in Section IX is rewriting requirements for QW-193 (Tube-to-Tubesheet Tests) to improve clarity. The proposal includes a new mandatory appendix consolidating tube-to-tubesheet welding rules.

  • The Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment reviewed a proposed Code Case for fixed tubesheets using the unified design theory.

  • The BPV VIII Working Group on Design by Analysis, reporting to the Subgroup on Design, continues developing new requirements based on ASCE 7 guidance to address issues such as high-temperature creep and ratcheting in the 2027 code edition.

Meet Our Code Experts

Our engineering representatives, Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu, P.E., and Santiago Laris, P.E., bring substantial technical depth to their roles within the ASME code committees. Tiradej, who has been with CEI for more than a decade, participates in multiple ASME subgroups and currently serves as Secretary of the Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment. Santiago, a Texas A&M University graduate and an integral part of the Paulin Research Group support team since 2020, contributes extensively to resource development and technical initiatives across several committee activities.
