CEI’s journey began in 1986 when the originating founder Jim Shearer became so frustrated with the tedious hand calculations required for bids in the pressure vessel and piping industries that he was determined to automate ASME Section VIII calculations using the power of computing technology. While Jim Shearer aimed to produce a personal productivity tool, his idea quickly grew into a flagship industry after he received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from peers in a market typically hesitant to adopt new technology. CEI now provides a suite of premier products serving the pressure vessel, welding, and fabrication industries.

A GROWING MARKET
Following an initial marketing campaign to a small mailing list of 100 companies, sufficient demand was created that would lead to the market launch of the flagship product Advanced Pressure Vessel providing users a revolutionary computer design software.
Further requests for additional capabilities within the software were evidence that a market existed for engineers who wanted to utilize computers to increase greater productivity.
CEI was born and hired its first programmer in the fall of 1987.
SOFTWARE BUILT FOR ENGINEERS BY ENGINEERS
CEI is a pioneer in providing software solutions to companies using ASME, PD, EN and AWS safety codes for pressure vessels and welding procedures.
MIKE HARTNETT, CSM
Mike graduated with honors from William Jewell College. After working in the technology field for Sprint, TechSystems, and H&R Block, he joined CEI in 2002. Hartnett has extensive experience leading agile software projects, and is passionate about meeting the complex demands of the construction and telecom industries.
He is deeply committed to understanding the markets CEI serves and has an innate ability to find solutions that accommodate the conflicting requirements of modern software projects. He believes deeply in the concept of servant leadership, and has proudly worked his way up through the ranks at CEI.
Ryan originally joined CEI in 1999 as an intern. While earning his degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Central Missouri, Ryan promoted to the Software Quality Control Manager. He left CEI in 2004 to start his own technology business.
Ryan returned to CEI in 2011 even more passionate about improving systems, bettering products, and serving people. His focus is on providing efficient and superior products for CEI’s customers. Ryan’s mantra is, “If you have to do it twice, why isn’t it automated?”
Amee earned a degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Central Missouri. She has 20 years of software development, support and project management experience that she uses to drive continual process improvements to produce high quality solutions for our clients.
MIKE CLARK, P.E.
Pressure Vessel Code Authority & DesignCalcs
Mike earned his Bachelor of Science Mechanical Engineering Degree and Engineer in Training Certification in 2003 and gained his license in 2008. He has been actively involved with the ASME BPV code since 2004. At CEI, Mike is the lead advocate for DesignCalcs where he draws on his engineering background, code connections, and consulting experience to direct the software development and to explain the nuts and bolts of pressure vessel design.
Ultimately, Mike is representing a code and engineering resource that serves hundreds of companies, in multiple industries, that build pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
