CEI and Paulin Research Group maintain an active presence in the ongoing development of ASME pressure equipment codes. Our engineers regularly attend ASME code committee meetings, where they contribute technical insight and stay closely aligned with proposed revisions. This quarterly participation ensures our teams are not only current with regulatory changes but also positioned to adapt our software and analysis tools in step with evolving code requirements that impact global pressure vessel and piping design.
Section IX & Section VIII Code Meetings | February 2025
During the week of May 12th through the 15th, CEI and PRG representatives--Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu, P.E., Santiago Laris E.I.T., and Thomas Detony--attended several ASME code committee meetings in person at the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, UT. These meetings include:
Section IX Committee Meetings
- Subgroup on Welding Qualifications
- Subgroup on Brazing
- Subgroup on General Requirements (IX) of which Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu is a member
- BPV Committee on Welding, Brazing, & Fusing
Section VIII Committee Meetings:
- Working Group on Design by Analysis
- Subgroup on Design of which Santiago Laris is a member of the Resource Development Group
- Subgroup on General Requirements (VIII)
- Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment of which Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu is the Secretary
- BPV Committee on Pressure Vessels where Tiradej sat in for a fellow committee member
Key Takeaways
During these meetings, our representatives tracked key updates and ongoing code development initiatives. Below are the most important takeaways that pressure equipment engineers and designers should take note of:
- The first in-person meeting after the beginning of a new Code edition cycle brought many discussions on what each subgroup would like to accomplish for the 2027 code edition.
-
The ASME Reshape Project phase 2 has begun with subgroups completing work on the removal of class 1 from Section VIII Div. 2 and beginning work on the development and implementation of new code cases for high temperature and cyclic service.
-
Section IX has a task group working on rewriting the requirements of QW-193 (Tube to Tubesheet Tests) to make the requirements clear for code users. The task group has created a proposal for a new mandatory appendix to centrally locate the tube to tubesheet welding rules.
-
The Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment received a presentation introducing a new design theory for fixed tubesheets. The subgroup will review the new theory for a potential new code case.
-
The BPV VIII Working Group on Design by Analysis, that reports to the Subgroup on Design, is working on passing the final portion of the Part 5 rewrite that will have Part 5 be in line with ASME FFS-1/API-579.

Meet Our Code Experts
Our engineering representatives, Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu, PE, and Santiago Laris, EIT, bring deep technical expertise to their roles in the ASME code committee meetings. Tiradej has been with CEI for over ten years and actively participates in several ASME subgroups, currently being the Secretary of the Subgroup on Heat Transfer Equipment. Santiago, a Texas A&M University graduate, has been a key member of the Paulin Research Group support team since 2020 and contributes to a range of resource development efforts within the code committees.
