Every quarter, CEI representatives attend code meetings to keep our solutions up-to-date and to help our customers navigate through ASME code changes. This past quarter (Q4 of 2022) our representatives, Michael Clark PE, and Tiradej Bunyarattaphuantu PE, attended several ASME BPV Code Committee meetings.

This blog captures a synopsis of those week-long meetings to provide our readers with upcoming changes pertaining to ASME code compliance.

  • SG on Heat Transfer Equipment (BPV VIII) -- of which Michael Clark is the Vice Chair and Tiradej Bunyarattaphantu is a member

Meeting Notes & Highlights

In these meetings, here are some key takeaways and notes our representatives captured:

• During the last meetings in Q3, The ASME Reshape Project had planned to begin implementation of moving the design rules to Division 2 only with changes to UHX and Appendix 26 for the 2023 Code edition and with a promise of additional changes to the 2025 code edition. Since then, UHX and Appendix 26 in ASME Section VIII, Division 1 will mostly be removed and instead point to equivalent paragraphs in Division 2 (4.18 and 4.19).
  • As promised, further changes are expected to come to the 2025 code edition.
• The conversation around flange loadings is steady and changes (e.g. UG-44 [b]) will most likely be implemented in future editions though not for 2023.

• During the reception on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, committee member Rick Swayne received the Melvin R. Green Code and Standards Medal for his contributions made to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. To read the full story on LinkedIn, click here.

2023

• February 6-10, meetings will be held by the BPV VIII and BPV IX at the AWS Headquarters in Miami.

• May 15-19, all section meetings will take place at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, which also includes a joint meeting with the National Board.

• August 7-11, ASME BPV will hold virtual meetings.
• November 6-10 quarterly meetings will be held in San Antonio, Texas.

Michael Clark has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is licensed in Missouri. He has been a part of CEI for 20 years and had been involved in the ASME code since 2004. He currently sits on the SGHTE and SGD for BPV VIII. He helps drive improvements and integrations in the CEI and PRG catalog of products.

Tiradej has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri. He has been a part of CEI for 10 years and has been involved in the ASME code since 2015. He currently sits on SGHTE for BPV VIII.
